The Narragansett is one of America's oldest and most celebrated Standardbred turkey varieties. Developed in the Narragansett region of Rhode Island during the 1800s as a naturally occurring color mutation of the Bronze turkey, it is believed to be the second oldest recognized Standardbred variety and remains one of the largest. Prized for its striking silver, black, and buff plumage, excellent cold hardiness, and outstanding table qualities, the Narragansett is a true piece of American agricultural history deserving of preservation.
Our Narragansett hatching eggs come from the Good Shepherd breeding program, maintained in large, several-hundred-bird breeding flocks selected for health, vigor, productivity, and adherence to the Standard of Perfection. Because these are working utility flocks—not exhibition flocks—individual birds may not exhibit perfect APA conformation, but they represent strong, functional breeding stock selected to preserve the breed's historic characteristics.

Shipping & Satisfaction Gaurantee
Hatching eggs are no more than 3-4 days old when shipped. Each egg is carefully candled and only those with small strong air sacks are sent. Eggs are packaged in high-quality custom foam packaging and then double-boxed for safe shipping. All eggs are shipped via UPS or Fed Ex 1-2 day shipping. Aditionally, 1-2 Extra eggs per dozen are usually sent.
We will refund you for eggs broken during transport or send more eggs if a large percentage of eggs have broken. The same applies for eggs lost or severely delayed during transport. If you have a terrible hatch let us know, we will in most circumstances provide more eggs or pro rated discounts.
Please note that mixed or incorrect breeds do tend to pop up from time to time when purchasing hatching eggs.
- During Wholesale pricing sales we will only provide a prorated discount if at least 50% off the birds hatched are incorrect.
- At all other times a pro-rated discount will be provided for incorrect or crossed eggs received.
The Lines
Please also note that while our birds can win shows sometimes, our breeding is more utility than show-focused. Getting show-quality stock cannot be guaranteed to those purchasing poults or eggs.
Our line of Standard Bronze was purchased by Frank Reese as a child. He has shepherded and improved it ever since.
While we were hoping to also have Blacks and Narragansetts available for sale this year, sadly the farmer housing those 2 varieties for our retail production got hit with bird flu. We are rebuilding both lines as well as several other breeds and plan to have additional varieties of poults and hatching eggs available in 2026.
